| Marika
was born in Riga, Latvia. She started playing the piano at the age
of four and, after winning several competitions, continued her studies
in the Darzins Specialist Music school and at the Latvia
Academy of Music.
Marika
graduated from the Academy with Diploma of Excellence in concert
performance (piano), chamber ensemble, accompaniment and piano/music
tuition. Some years later she gained a Postgraduate Diploma in harpsichord
performance and continued to improve her playing under the guidance
of such recognised European performers and professors as Ian Van
Immerseel (Belgium), Paul Dombrecht (Belgium), Susanna Ruzhichkova
(Czechoslovakia), Alexei Lubimov (Russia).
Marika
has been awarded several European scholarships
and is the winner of Sergey Rachmaninov Piano Competition.
She has performed solo and with chamber ensembles and orchestras
in Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Spain,
France, Poland, Germany, England and the USA. |
Marika
Meshkuna has taught for about thirty years,
as a senior lecturer, at the Latvia Academy of Music, its specialist
college, the Music Studio for Gifted Children, at the Theatre of
Poetry and Music, and Emmanuel College Gateshead. She has delivered
workshops and master classes.
Many
of her former students have become professional musicians with international
reputation and are regularly performing in Europe and in America.
Marika
lives in West Monkseaton, Whitley Bay. She provides piano tuition
at her specialist studio Piano Kids and at the Sage
Gateshead Music school.
In
recent years Marika has repeatedly entered her piano and composition
students in regional competitions, where they all have won prizes. |
